Initially, our efforts will center on assisting people “connect” with resources that are already available to residents in the area. The problem for many people is that they are unable to navigate this matrix of help.
Transportation can be very difficult, even though there are transportation services. Obtaining and storing food can be a challenge due to a fairly complex web of food pantries. Most, if not all, expect an official ID. For those without an ID, this can be a real hurdle.
Subsequently, we are providing long term storage for those that do not have a freezer available. We are coordinating transportation to the food banks and a community localized food bank. The section of food from the food pantries can be, well, let’s say – interesting.
For many residents, they have never even tasted a lentil much less know how to prepare them. You get handed a stalk of celery and a few squash… now what? So, education into food preparation is another important component to delivering services.
In the meantime, please reach out to see if we can help you to coordinate benefits.
